The Area of Study Belonging needs students to find ways of how belonging is presented in and through text. Views and ideas of belonging can vary. These views and ideas are formed in personal, cultural, historical and social contexts. The feeling of belonging can emerge from the links made with people, places, groups, communities and the world. In this Area of Study, students can include the aspects of belonging in terms of experiences and notions of identify, relationships, acceptance and understanding. Texts can show parts of belonging, having the potential for the individual to enhance or test a community. Texts can represent decisions on not belonging, or barriers which stop belonging. Views and ideas of belonging in texts can be formed through different language modes, forms, features and structures. In working with a text the person may understand the options shown by the feeling of belonging to, or rejection from the text and the way the world shows it.
